I just had to go down to the basement and work on this piece first thing yesterday morning.
After a few hours I had it all filled in and it was ready for tweaking. I’m not happy with the dark streak through the yellows or the line of the olive greens on the left.
After many trips to the basement and cutting some new yellow pieces I have the center pretty good. I moved a few pieces in the olive greens but it still needs a little work. It will take at least one more day of tweaking.
Here are my tomato plants after 3 weeks in the ground. There are lots of blossoms on them now.
The bell flowers are plentiful again this year. They have planted themselves everywhere. More pollen for the bees to spread around. This group is in the back garden near the peonies.
These are along the edge of my driveway.
I ran errands, then came home and started this colorwash on a double design wall (7′ tall) yesterday morning. I went out to lunch with a friend and then mowed part of my grass. Since the grass was tall the battery in the mower stopped before I could finish in front of my house.
Later in the afternoon I mowed a second section of the grass and then came in and worked another hour on this piece.
I also found the box with more of the brown fabrics for the double 4 patch so I can cut some more 4.5″ squares and sew more blocks today.
I had planted the cannas a couple weeks ago and there were only 2 peeking out of the ground a couple days ago. Now with all of the rain I can see all 5 coming up. This is just one of them.
Some lilies are blooming.
This is some ordinary Verbena compared with yesterday’s photo of the Wicked Verbena. I really like it in the pots.
This squirrel didn’t mind getting his furry tail wet in the tall grass. It rained off and on yesterday with a quick stronger storm coming through around 6 p.m.
After the art quilters left I went out to check my gardens. The milkweed is tall and ready to bloom. I haven’t seen any Monarch Butterflies yet.
I had to look at the tag and see what I had planted in this pot. That is “Wicked Verbena” and snapdragons.
Here is a closeup of the “Wicked Verbena”.
This is a reminder one more time for the commenters: if you don’t hear back from me when you ask a question you are a no reply. I have an email link on the right side bar and another in my profile.
I spent most of the day cleaning the basement and I had many piles of fabric to put away. The art quilters are coming Monday so I’ll be spending all day today down there cleaning off tables and design walls and dusting.
In NC at the farm there was a demonstration of alpaca shearing. I didn’t get a before photo unfortunately.
Here is the after photo, a much thinner animal. There were 5 alpacas grazing at the farm for a week.
Here is a photo my son in law took before I arrived in NC. I didn’t realize they came in so many different colors.
As I search for the fabrics matching the sewn strips so I can cut the 4.5″ squares I’m thinking that maybe I was going to make some 16 patches to mix into the quilt. If I don’t find any more matching fabrics I’ll just go to the stash and cut more fabric.
This is at the waiting area for our gate at the Asheville NC airport. I don’t think we’ll ever see rocking chairs at the Chicago airports.
I have the yellow primroses in all of my gardens and they are all blooming now.
The flowers in the pots are filling in too.
The tomato plants grew a lot in the 3 hot days I was gone. Now it has cooled down a little and we got some rain.
I need to download the photos from my phone and then I can show you the alpacas.
My daughter’s best friend from grade school and I flew to North Carolina on Monday. We were sitting right over the wing in a small plane. On May 17 I mentioned that my daughter’s property with a named waterfall in NC is going to be on a TV show. Tracy and I were there for the taping of the reveal segment where my daughter and son in law got their first look at the improvement on the property. You can go here for some background on this.
This is the largest of 3 waterfalls on the property. You can see a video of another one on the link above.
I found my new favorite candy bar while we were shopping.
This was the decor in one of the restaurants. I just got home and was exhausted so I’ll tell more tomorrow. I can’t show the reveal because it is going to be a TV program and is a secret.
I have a few more blocks done and several more in progress. I definitely need to move it over by the other lights because it is prettier than this photo.
This is the front jungle after the rain. There are Hosta, Primroses, Balloon flowers (not blooming yet), Tiger Lilies (not blooming yet) Red Penstemon, and Wild Geranium plus 2 bushes. I will dig out a bunch of the Primroses when they are done blooming. They spread a little more each year.
